Every couple of years I get the bug up my shorts to build a MythTV PVR, then get intimidated by either the install technique or the price. I’m just about out of excuses now, what with KnoppMyth making installation just about as easy as it’s going to get, and MythIC.tv selling fully-outfitted home theater PCs designed to “just work.” All that’s left is the price. The Dragon, MythIC’s flagship [and only] DVR, runs about $1200 shipped. That’s about twice the price of a similarly-equipped national-brand set-top DVR. In open-source spirit, though, they have published a parts list and encourage the brave hobbyist to build his own.
