DeskJet vs. MacBook [and all Intel Macs] issue.

If you’re like me and like this guy, this is driving you nuts and the problem has been hinted at on various forums but not confirmed… until now.

The HP DeskJet 3.3 [Universal] driver is crap.  At least, it is on the 845c and apparently other similar models.  You can download the installer from the website and install it on Intel, PPC, whatever.  You get text like the stuff seen on the above page at 256.com, extra blank pages, all that.

If you are on a PPC Mac [Power Mac, iBook, PowerBook -- anything made before 2006], install the 2.7.1 driver that HP continues to make available.  If you are on an Intel Mac, get over to the Linux Foundation’s website and download/install the ESP Ghostscript and hpijs drivers.  Then, go to “Printer Setup Utility,” click “Add,” find your deskjet in the list.  At the bottom of the window, click on and change the driver the system selects from “Deskjet 3.3″ to the “Foomatic” one.  Then, thank a Linux dude.

I might put up a screenshot of the Desktop Printer Util windows sometime soon if I get bored enough.  But I wanted to note this immediately.
