[UPDATE: This post is a major spam target, so I'm going to just note that these instructions were intended for early PSPs running 1.5 firmware. Sony has released many, many updates since then, and Dark Alex has made those updates homebrew friendly, so you should ignore the below instructions and just update either through Sony or through Dark Alex. I'm turning off comments because I'm sick of deleting the crap.]
I’mma have to try these instructions out soon. I could accept that maybe I was asking a bit much of ffmpeg to make one-disc VCDs out of divx files back in the day, but I used the program’s own preset and still got the PSP equivalent of a coaster [not that bad, actually, just delete the file off the memory card and you're done -- no wasted media].
If there’s a program that can do it all for free, well, that would be perrrfect for a road warrior who just wants a couple of Mr. Show episodes on something he can stare at while eating takeout in his car between assignments and isn’t even thinking about a Powerbook until he sees how this Intel stuff shakes out [and already has an iPod, thanks].
You’d think, given that QuickTime 7 is supposed to be founded around the very codec that PSP video is based on — H.264 — it would be easy to output to PSP in much the same manner it is easy in QT7 to output to iPod video. But I haven’t found instructions yet. Wesley here may just have saved the day.
UPDATE: John Stuart has a tutorial from almost a year ago that’s even more succinct. I am attempting these now with a test file. When you read all the comments [actually, don't bother], you will recognize that the best part is that I never found this page, or any of the SEO leeches who left comments trying to boost their rank, on a Google search.
