Well, it looks like Sony and Apple are closely aligned on the Sound + Vision front. Apparently the PSP Video format is the Apple-embraced H.264 codec for video [scaled to the size of the fabulous PSP screen] with AAC sound.
It would be nice if Sony extends iTunes Music Store track compatibility to the PSP eventually. I love my iPod but it would be nice to have more options — especially if PSP games begin to support custom soundtracks like Xbox games do.
In unrelated news, artfahrt.com as well as Apple’s site show that Apple’s implementation of ZeroConf is no longer called Rendezvous, but… “Bonjour.” Well, I guess it’s one syllable shorter and it rolls off the tongue a little easier than “Rendezvous.” But it still sounds just as fruity. [I have been told that this was a legal issue. Wait, Apple backed down from a lawsuit? These Rendezvous guys must have a picture of Steve Jobs installing Windows or something.]
Bonjour! J’mappel es Monsour ZeroConf! Merci!
Welcome back to the ‘blogwaves! And doesn’t Sony have their own online music store? I’m not sure. And I’m pretty sure if they did sell online music for the PSP it’d all be in Sony’s proprietary MiniDisk “ATETRAC” format or something.
Monsieur Victoire, il y a un poisson dans votre bibliotheque.
Sony has an online music store called Connect [USAToday does not like, who, as you observed, offers its tracks in ATRAC. The PSP can play both ATRAC and MP3 files [as mentioned on this excellent PSP hardware summary].
Since Sony is starting to introduce AAC compatibility in some of their stereo components, I hope it’s a matter of time til they cave and add it to the PSP, possibly in a future firmware upgrade.
I saw on “Attack of the Show” last night, that someday it may be possible to load MAME to a memory stick and play that on the PSP…
